For those excited to try out a mobile game of the NieR series, the wait is almost over. NieR Re[in]carnation is arriving in the US on Android and iOS this July 28. There’s a lot of expectation for this one considering that the team working on it includes producer Yosuke Saito, creative director Yoko Taro, and composer Keiichi Okabe. So far, the reception appears strong with pre-registrations already breaching 400,000.

The game is set in the same universe as Nier and Nier: Automata. Players begin in a realm known as The Cage and take the role of the Girl of Light. This girl can be described with a bright personality but for some unknown reasons wear a collar and bandages. Each night she is hounded by horrible dreams.

Accompanying the Girl of Light is a mysterious creature only known as Mama. Serving as the Girl’s guide, she appears to know something about The Cage. Despite being a guide, she has a tendency to do what she wants.

Gameplay

In terms of gameplay, NieR Re[in]carnation has players explore different areas of The Cage. While doing this, they get to see statues called Scarecrows. These statues give and upgrade weapons that can be used in battles against enemies within unlocked memories. Players get to experience memories that are related to a weapon.

Characters

In addition to The Girl of Light, five other characters have been revealed so far. These include:

  • The Prosthetic Hunter
  • The Clockwork Soldier
  • The Dark Monster
  • The Assassin
  • The Wanderer

While a lot of characters will be available once the game launches, others can only be obtained through gacha.

Pre-Registration

With the required number of 400,000 pre-registrations already met, extra milestones and rewards have been added. This time, when the game reaches 600,000, everyone gets enough free gems that allow them to complete 15 Summons. There are also valuable materials to be earned that can help improve characters.

NieR Re[in]carnation can be downloaded for free but expect in-app purchases. What do you think about this game? Willing to try it out?
