PC players never had a chance to play the original Nier game, but Square Enix announced today at Tokyo Game Show that an upgraded version of the game called Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... is releasing next year. The original Nier launched for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.
The original Nier released as two separate versions for both the PS3 and 360 in Japan. While on the Xbox 360, the game was called Nier Gestalt, the PS3 version was called Nier Replicant. Essentially, Nier Replicant features a younger Nier, and it is this version of the game that's receiving a visual upgrade.
There were already several rumors surfacing on the internet claiming that a Nier Replicant remaster was in the works. However, according to developer Toylogic, this isn't true. Sure, the upgraded version of the game will see new combat changes, visual upgrades, and new dialogue, but somehow it's not a remaster.
The Nier that most of us got to play told a father's story in search of a cure for his daughter. But, Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... offers a different experience that “invites players into a dark, apocalyptic world as they join a brother’s captivating quest to cure his sister of a deadly disease — a quest which will, in turn, make them question everything.”
Additionally, Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... will also be getting a Deluxe Edition along with a Standard Edition. The Deluxe Edition is called White Snow Edition, which includes a copy of the game, a SteelBook case, the game's recording script, three pins, and the game's soundtracks on two CDs. The Deluxe Edition of Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... is currently available for pre-order in Japan for roughly $188. It will also be available in the USA at a later date for an unspecified price.
