The last time we’ve heard any news regarding classic side-scroller Ninja Warriors: Once Again was mid-June, when publisher Taito announced a planned console release in the west by July. Well, we’re almost halfway into July and Taito has just confirmed the date for the classic reboot. Expect The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors on July 25.
The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors is based on the original 1994 The Ninja Warriors. Assuming nothing changes in the plot, the story will revolve around a dystopian United States set in the near-future. An autocratic US government rules over the country. As an answer to its oppressive reign, a resistance group made up of scientists create androids to destabilize the existing tyrannical rule.
The original 1994 title provided players with three main android ninjas to control, namely: The Ninja, Kamaitachi, and Kunoichi. The trailer released along with the updated Ninja Warriors announcement confirmed that this will be the same in the upcoming reboot, along with a few other goodies such as: new graphics, two additional playable characters, a re-recorded soundtrack, two-player local co-op support and many more features yet to be announced.
As someone who’s been on almost a three month-long binge of 2D side-scrollers, The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors is looking to be my next pick up. I haven’t had a chance to play the original since I was just born the year it was originally released, but it would be amazing to get a chance to play something from my year of birth.
As for its July 25 release, publisher United Games will be overseeing a planned traditional physical edition for The Ninja Saviors: Return of the Warriors via the publishing label ININ. Also, limited physical editions of the title will also be sold through Strictly Limited Games. Orders are already open for its limited edition, but no announce date has been confirmed yet.
Publisher H2 Interactive will be at the helm of releasing and distributing a standard physical edition on the same day as its digital release. Currently, pre-orders are being taken on Play-Asia for the PlayStation 4 and Switch for $29.99. This will come with support for English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean subtitles.
