Nintendo has announced the release date for its first mobile app, Miitomo. The social app will be available on March 17 in Japan, which lines up with the announcement made in February.
The Miitomo mobile app is Nintendo’s way of bringing more awareness to its properties and to appeal to the masses. When Miitomo was announced, pre-registration for the app began, which allowed interested mobile users will receive notice when the app goes live and even free in-app currency.
Nintendo did not confirm a worldwide release date, but it should fall around March 17.
The in-app currency, called Miitomo coins, lets you dress up your Mii character in various ways. You can also obtain these coins via in-app purchases. By pre-registering to Miitomo, you’ll receive an email for when you can download the first Nintendo mobile app on iOS and Android. If you’ve already created a Nintendo Account, you’ll also earn Nintendo Platinum Points that are part of the My Nintendo rewards program.
It should be noted that the points you get for preregistering will expire six months after the launch of My Nintendo, so don’t hold onto those Platinum Points too long.
So what do you think of the Miitomo release date? Will the West get it around the same time as Japan or will we have to wait? Sound off in the comments section below.
