The long-awaited successor to the Nintendo Network ID has finally gone live . Nintendo fans can register for their new Nintendo Accounts using their old Nintendo Network ID, Facebook, Google+ or Twitter accounts.
The sign-up process for the new Nintendo Account is pretty simple. If you had a Nintendo Network ID before, just input your username and password and you’ll receive a verification email. Input the code and you are ready to go.
This is the easiest way to get your old ID synced to the new system, but if you are a brand new Nintendo player who doesn’t have a previous ID, it may be simpler to just sync with one of your social media accounts.
And once you’ve created your account, you can link the three social media accounts mentioned above.
The new Nintendo Account going live comes just in time for the launch of Nintendo’s first mobile app, Miitomo.
Miitomo is set to launch in March but the website has already opened for preregistration.
“ Miitomo makes it easy for people to express themselves and interact with their friends in new and fun ways,” said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing in a press release. “Preregistering now is the best way to be among the first to get in on the fun when Miitomo launches next month.”
The free-to-start social app allows for conversations using users’ mii avatars to bring a new social experience to your mobile app. Once Miitomo is downloaded and ready to go, you can add friends in person or sync using Facebook and Twitter to find other friends using Miitomo.
As you progress in Miitomo, you’ll earn Miitomo coins that you can use to dress up your Mii character in various ways. You can also obtain these coins via in-app purchases.
By preregistering to Miitomo, you’ll receive an email for when you can download the first Nintendo mobile app on iOS and Android. If you’ve already created a Nintendo Account, you’ll also earn Nintendo Platinum Points that are part of the My Nintendo rewards program.
According to the site , My Nintendo points can be redeemed for rewards through My Nintendo. Players familiar with the Club Nintendo rewards program will feel right at home with the new program.
However, it should be noted that the points you get for preregistering will expire six months after the launch of My Nintendo. so don’t hold onto those Platinum Points too long.
