Via GamesIndustry.biz, A report for analysis firm DFC Intelligence suggests the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch console couls sell as many as 40 million units by 2020, placing it on par with the sales numbers achieved by the likes of the current gen systems, the PS4 and Xbox One.
"Demand is expected to be strong and the major issue will be whether the system can attract a broad audience starting in the holiday sales season of 2017," wrote DFC Intelliegence. "The Switch is a compelling piece of hardware that could potentially reach a much larger addressable market. However given the limited software and Nintendo’s poor recent track record of introducing new products we have tempered our forecasts to be conservative."
To give the figure some context, a report from December 2016 announced PlayStation 4 has sold more than 50 million units since its debut in Nov. 2013. Meanwhile, a report from June 2016 revealed the Nintendo 3DS sales have already surpassed 60 million units. While analysts may feel slightly more conservative about Nintendo Switch sales, many agree the new console will certainly surpass the Nintendo Wii-U.
The Nintendo Switch will launch on March 3 and feature major launch titles including Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
