With both of Nioh’s early testing periods fading in the rearview, but several months remaining before the game’s PS4 debut, Koei Tecmo and Sony Interactive Entertainment are finally winding up the pre-order hype train. The two companies revealed details about Nioh Deluxe Edition, a surprisingly restrained bundle, alongside pre-order incentives for the upcoming action-RPG.
Unlike many modern releases, which use low-quality physical goods to drive up the cost of Collector’s Editions, Nioh Deluxe Edition is a relatively modest package. Those who spring for the more-expensive version will receive the base game, an unnamed “weapon pack” with five additional weapons, a PS4 avatar and the Nioh Season Pass. Sadly, there’s no word on a price for the Deluxe Edition yet. Fans who pre-order Nioh will also get a suit of armor bearing the same name as the game. Pre-ordering Nioh from PSN, or buying within the first two weeks of launch, will also entitle consumers to the Crimson Master Armor DLC.
Today’s update also included a few details on what to expect from the game’s PS4 Pro support. Game Director Yosuke Hayashi says the updated PlayStation hardware made it much easier to deliver the kind of visuals that players expect from modern releases. Players will have the option to play Nioh in full 1080p/60fps glory, along with a range of other options, thanks to the PS4 Pro. And the recent alpha and beta tests inspired a number of gameplay changes, including a renewed focus on single-enemy encounters.
“Some of the feedback we got from our users was that they didn’t want the battles to involve too many enemies, because it would be too challenging. So we looked at more one-on-one encounters where greater skill was required,” Hayashi said. “That we were able to get people to like the game during the alpha and beta testing is something I’m really happy about. So as we get closer to launch, we’re putting a lot of pressure on ourselves to meet those high expectations.
