The first wave of Nioh DLC is slated for an April debut, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja announced this week, joined by a new PvP update for the critically acclaimed action RPG. Details on both remain scarce, but Koei Tecmo did reveal a few details on the next wave of Nioh content during a recent live stream for the publisher’s Japanese fans.
Technically, there will actually be three new additions to Nioh over the next few months. A new patch for the game, featuring 10 new missions for the loot-heavy action RPG, will debut in late March. The new tasks are intended only for high-level characters, with some straight up being compared to boss rushes, and will presumably include a handful of gameplay tweaks and bug fixes bundled in too. A few weeks later, sometime during early/mid April, Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja will publish Dragon of the North , the first of three announced Nioh expansions.
As the name implies, Dragon of the North will send William to Japan’s northern provinces. We’re not sure how his travels will factor into the rest of the Nioh story but Koei Tecmo has confirmed that the game’s first expansion will introduce new yokai, weapons, stages, characters and other content. Dragon of the North will also be available as a single purchase, for those who aren’t ready to commit to the $24.99 Nioh Season Pass, when it hits PSN in April.
Last, but certainly not least, Koei Tecmo said it would publish another free Nioh update in late April that will introduce the PvP mode promised last month. Right now, the community can only face off against AI-controlled bots based on another Nioh player's build. But a true competitive mode will be added to the game in late April and it won’t cost a dime.
Nioh is currently available on PlayStation 4.
