Space exploration game No Man’s Sky may have launched with plenty of issues, but the game has flowered into a fun experience after some crucial post-release updates. Creator Sean Murray teased the next No Man’s Sky update, and it’s looking pretty amazing.
According to the tweet above, there are three main components in the No Man’s Sky Beyond update. As of right now, only one of those three has been announced: Online play. In a post on the No Man’s Sky website, Murray answered some initial questions about what the mode was like, and it sounds like it’s the introduction of the game many thought No Man’s Sky would be like at launch.
According to Murray, the Online mode is a “radical new social and multiplayer experience,” so take that however you want. That said, the mode sounds like it’s basically No Man’s Sky in a shared universe. There will be no microtransactions, no subscription and is completely free for all players.
As for the other two question marks mentioned in the tweet, developer Hello Games isn’t talking. All we know are the updates are all interwoven into the Beyond update, and more information will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Jumping to pure speculation for a second, it sounds like the two new features might be related to online play. Perhaps these features offer ways to play with others, like creating a faction or party. It’s also possible it’s some kind of system where players can set up their own stores and sell goods to others. That said, it’s possible the two new features aren’t related to online play at all.
The Beyond update doesn’t have an official release date, but the announcement post does mention it should be here sometime this Summer. The post also makes it sound like this will not be the final update, as Murray mentions the development team will keep supporting No Man’s Sky into the foreseeable future.
No Man’s Sky is now available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

- A massive universe to explore
- Cool alien races
- A brilliant showcase of procedural technology
- Not much to do beyond resource collection
- Alien interactions are fairly meaningless
- Not as unique as originally advertised.
