No Man’s Sky, the overhyped space exploration game from last year, has been relatively quiet recently. There hasn’t been a huge update since base building and much of the huge playbase has dropped off. But now something is stirring… something mysterious…
16 packages have been sent out to modders in the reddit community. The packages contain a No Man’s Sky shirt, pin, socks, and a signed poster that says ‘I hope you like what’s next,’ with ‘Dreaming of far-flung worlds’ written on it. Even more interestingly, each package contained an audio cassette tape. One person’s said 1/16, another 2/16 and so on. This implies at each cassette has separate content and only by putting them together will the message become clear. The problem is many of the redditors don’t have cassette players so have no way to play the tapes. Redditor legacyzero, managed to listen to his tape and according to him,
Side A- there's a deliberate soundtrack. Sounds alien. Otherworldly. There's a rhythmic click for the duration. An alien foundry ambience. The noise of space. And a few times, what seems to be a voice - it's so digitized, you [can’t] make out words, but you perceive it as some kind of communication. It escalates... Abruptly ends at 9 minutes
Side B contains retro' 65 Days of Static music.
Legacyzero breaks down the early stages of it all here:
The plot thickened when some of them ran their tapes through a visualizer and the same code appeared.
Stay tuned as the plot thickens or check out the below recaps from other receivers of the tapes. You can also read the thread where the modders are sharing their discoveries. Do you have any idea what it all means? Let us know.
