No Man’s Sky is finally headed to PC on Friday morning, three days after its PlayStation Network debut, and gamers around the globe are making final preparations for a weekend full of interstellar exploration. But when exactly will the game be ready on Steam, you ask?
Sadly, the answer is a bit more complicated (and disappointing) than it was for PlayStation 4 owners.
According to the game’s Steam page, No Man’s Sky will be available for download at 1:00pm (EDT) on Friday. We’re not sure why PC gamers are being forced to wait until midday, particularly when we were already forced to wait several days longer than the console crowd, but we have to hope/assume Hello Games has a good reason. And it’s always possible the decision was out of their hands entirely. Maybe Valve just wanted to make sure someone would actually be in the office when the Day One crowd melts the Steam authentication servers.
On the plus side, Hello Games has already confirmed the No Man’s Sky patch released to PS4 users earlier this week will be ready to go when the game hits PC on Friday morning. But it doesn’t look like preloading is going to be an option for No Man’s Sky, seeing as we’re less than 24 hours away from launch and there’s still no option to download the game beforehand. At least we can’t look forward to faster download speeds when the time comes.
No Man’s Sky is in development for PS4 and PC. The game is now available on PlayStation 4 and makes its PC debut on Aug. 12.
