No Man’s Sky and its Waking Titan ARG continue to unravel new secrets for the game’s most passionate fans on PS4 and PC. For the first time since the campaign began, citizen scientists returned to Hello Games’ infinite universe to solve a coordinate puzzle. Thanks to eight new discoveries, we know a little more about portals.
The intrigue began when a user named ReapMyster posted to the No Man’s Sky subreddit to say that he/she had been wandering around the game’s Galactic Hub and came across a planet called “[HUB-K-146] Newton.” On the surface, there was a message from instance16status that read: SEQUENCE 43B-2G2K-2T16.
As followers of the ARG lore will know, Waking Titan is mysteriously focused on the number 16, so, as such, Reap took the code to the ARG console site and entered it. While it yielded a basic error message in return, it also triggered the spawn of eight new codes around the Hub. When entered, here are the end results:
- SEQUENCE 0H7-AA59-QK38: A Sentinel screams in the sand. It is still alive, in spite of everything. Artemis stares at it.
- SEQUENCE MBW-5651-P23K: Glitches, Nada had called them. Aberrations, increasing in frequency the closer one moved toward the centre. But Artemis had no wish to go there. They were looking for something.
- SEQUENCE L22-QY7Y-6014: There was no story to be told in the silence of this universe. No race but the great triad, the Gek, the Vy'keen, the Korvax. Whatever Artemis was, they were alone.
- SEQUENCE 43B-2G2K-2T16: It started with a signal. A voice cried out across the cosmos, and the Traveller followed.
- SEQUENCE 1C1-80R1-JX3B: Artemis saw lights in the darkness, swarming about them as they tried to rest. But Artemis knew that the mind could deceive itself. The next morning, they found the source of the signal.
- SEQUENCE 5YY-W349-L200: They had found the path. They had found the answer, a price paid with their lives, their deaths.
- SEQUENCE 99J-U844-131Z: When they first reached out to the heavens, they had no idea what to expect. The beauty. The mystery. The danger.
- SEQUENCE AA2-327B-QG24: The Traveller stepped through the portal. And somewhere, beyond all worlds, beyond all living things, two digits screamed upon a terminal. 16, they said. 16, the universe trembled…
As for what we’re supposed to make of this transmission, that much is still unclear. It’s the first time in the Waking Titan ARG lore that we’ve heard of the gender-neutral character named Artemis, and its story seems to be intertwined with the Traveler to the point where the two namesakes may refer to the same being. Other theories suggest Artemis might be the player character too.
Whatever the case may be, Nada has introduced Artemis to these “glitches” towards the center of the universe, and at this point it’s safe to assume we’re talking about portals. Artemis is beckoned by the calls of these portals and answers them at the cost of their life. The number 16 rears its head yet again, and this time it’s in a seemingly malevolent capacity. Do portals serve as a way to exit the No Man’s Sky simulation to reach the heavens? What does it all mean?
We can’t discern too much here in terms of actual gameplay clues. Portals will probably appear more frequently as the player nears the center of No Man’s Sky, and these objects are possibly dangerous. The latter warning has been a consistent theme throughout the ARG.
For all intents and purposes, this is the first time the Waking Titan ARG has revealed major updates via the No Man’s Sky universe. Some coordinates set the early game into motion as soon as this experiment began, but, for the most part, it’s been relegated to physical drops and internet puzzles.
No Man’s Sky is available now on PS4 and PC. The Waking Titan ARG is expected to tease the game’s 1.3 update. It’s believed to release sometime this month.

- A massive universe to explore
- Cool alien races
- A brilliant showcase of procedural technology
- Not much to do beyond resource collection
- Alien interactions are fairly meaningless
- Not as unique as originally advertised.
