Developer Free Style has just announced the western release for its asymmetric multiplayer PvP title Obakeidoro!. Initially released in Japan for the Nintendo Switch in August 1, the game will soon make its way to the Nintendo eShop in North America and Europe on August 29.
Obakeidoro! takes inspiration from the Japanese variation of the game of tag (known as Keidoro). With both a cute and creepy tone, the game pits one player on the ghost side against three players on the side of humans. The ghost is given three minutes to catch and jail every player on the human side to achieve victory. For the human side, victory is simple: Survive for three minutes to win.
In its newly released trailer, snippets of gameplay are introduced. Set in an a graveyard arena, players are chased around by gigantic ghosts (and what looks like a frog) that can pass through walls. The players on the human side aren’t all that helpless, though. It seems that there are ways to set traps for the ghost, and even a way to free all the previously jailed humans.
Obakeidoro! was originally shown at the Japan Entertainment Festival (Zentame) in the Summer of 2018. In two days, the game had been played by more than 600 people, spurring the creators to further Obakeidoro!’s development. Afterwards, it was exhibited at the BitSummit 7 Spirits event in June of this year, wherein it was one of the 102 games to be considered for the Popular Selection Award.
Since releasing in Japan, Obakeidoro! has been ranked in the top three of the best-selling software for the Nintendo Switch on the Nintendo eShop, while also generating considerable buzz on social media.
For those looking for a family-friendly “Dead by Deadlight-like” experience without all the gore, Obakeidoro! is a safe bet on the Nintendo Switch. The game will retail on the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.
