The Wii U remake of Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is complete, according to developer Oddworld Inhabitants . News of a release date for Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty on the Wii U is almost ready and should be released shortly.
," New 'n' Tasty for Wii U is next on the menu. It's 99.99 percent complete and we're just in the final stages of getting it ready for the platform,” Oddworld Inhabitants said in a statement to Videogamer on Jan. 19. “We hope to have news on a release date very soon. We remain committed to our promises to get the game out on all announced platforms."
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is a remake of 1997’s Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee , where players follow the plight of Abe, a Mudokon slave at a meat processing factory called RuptureFarms. When he learns that he and his fellow Mudokons are to be slaughtered, he decides to escape and liberate as many Mudokons as he can on his way out. Oddysee is a two-dimensional platformer where players control Abe’s navigation through puzzles, obstacles and enemies with saving linked to checkpoints only. If players rescue at least 50 Mudokons, they save Abe as well.
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is already available on many platforms, including PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 , PlayStation Vita , Xbox One and PC via Steam or GOG . Wii U is the last platform for which New ‘n’ Tasty was announced but not yet available on. The PlayStation Vita version of New ‘n’ Tasty was released earlier this week .
The game currently enjoys a generally favorable Metacritic score of 84. In its positive review of the remake, GameInformer wrote , “Being different isn’t the same as being bad, and almost all of the changes are improvements. Some elements of the gameplay haven’t aged well, but they are ultimately outweighed by the opportunity to experience this refined new vision for Oddworld and its inhabitants.”
The Escapist also reviewed it positively, writing , “More than just a remake, this is a contemporary puzzle-platformer that charms, exasperates, and delights. This is how you do a reboot.”
Other positive reviews cited a core concept and gameplay that stands up to the test of time, with the remake adding small quality tweaks that didn’t take away from the game’s careful strategic balancing.
