The 4X strategy game Old World is launching on Steam and GOG this May 19. The game had been previously made available through the Epic Games Store. As if to sweeten the deal, developer Mohawk Games is also releasing a new expansion, free for those who buy the game on Steam and GOG during the first two weeks after release.
The new expansion is titled Heroes of the Aegean and it brings six historical scenarios. Players can take on the role of some of the most famous generals and leaders of Ancient Greece from Leonidas to Alexander the Great. They can even put their own spins on some of the famous historical scenarios like the Battle of Thermopylae or the Wars of the Diadochi.
For those not familiar with the game, these features offer a new take on key elements of the 4X strategy genre:
- Going beyond the traditional resources.
- Buildings are made of wood and stone and not "industry."
- Population doesn't grow off "food" alone.
- Orders are a resource shared across the realm.
- Instead of moving every unit once per turn, each unit can be moved multiple times until fatigued or Orders are depleted.
- Technological advancement is not predetermined.
- Randomization ensures that technology trees feel fresh with each new playthrough.
- Quality-of-life improvements
- These include being able to undo mistaken commands and nested tooltips and thus ensure that players are always making informed decisions.
- Play with friends in countless multiplayer modes.
- Mods further open up infinite options for new worlds, empires, and dynasties.
