What do you get when you combine roguelike elements with survival horror? You get a game known as Outbreak: Endless Nightmares. This one is set to arrive on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on May 19.
In a post, Drop Dead Studios Founder Evan Wolbach explained that for almost six years, the Outbreak series have been letting players blast away undead. He added that every title in the franchise has mainly been based on feedback from players. This time around, there’s going to be a “generational leap.”
In Outbreak: Endless Nightmares, players get to experience, among others, high-quality mo-cap animations, access to multiple camera views, semi-procedurally generated levels, and improved co-op split-screen experience having a streamlined interface.
Camera View
Outbreak: Endless Nightmares now gives players more choices on how to literally face the horrors. The game makes good use of first-person view and the classic survival horror fixed camera. It also has that intentional focus on designing environments, which means enemies, traps, and even loot, become visible at all angles. Even with this feature, Wolbach assured players that there are still secrets hiding in plain sight. For example, while in the fixed camera view, there will be some items obscured. However, shifting to over-the-shoulder should reveal them.
Then there is the free-look tactical camera that players can use to look around or to avoid any danger that might be lurking. This is because once players use the tactical camera, the whole game freezes including visual effects and physics.
Next-Gen Version
Wolbach shared that when developing the version for PS5, they were happy to know that the transition was seamless. The semi-procedurally generated levels ensure that the scares remain unpredictable. Meanwhile, the high-end CPU and SSD load them in seconds.
The already powerful GPU, paired with loads of RAM, improves the texture quality to maximum levels while making sure that all the lighting and shadows are real-time. Players also get a whole new experience with the DualSense wireless controller, especially with the high-end haptic feedback.
What are you waiting for? Time to face and defeat your nightmares.
