Outlast 2 has been a fixture on the video game convention circuit this year, beginning with a PAX East appearance back in March and ending with a trip to gamescom last month. Now fans who missed the tour get a chance to play Outlast 2, in the comfort of their own homes, thanks to a new demo now available on PSN, Steam and Xbox Live.
If you somehow missed the Outlast hype train, here’s what you need to know. The first game in the series cast players as Miles Upshur, an investigative journalist trying to escape a psychiatric hospital in the Rocky Mountains. The game originally debuted in 2013, to positive reviews, and Outlast would become one of the most discussed horror games in recent memory. So word of a sequel wasn’t much of a shock. But the people and places seen in Outlast 2 will apparently be much different from those featured in its predecessor.
This time, journalist Blake Langermann will venture out into the sweltering deserts of Arizona to investigate the murder of a pregnant woman whose identity hasn’t been confirmed. Langermann be accompanied by his wife, Lynn, who we can only hope wasn’t included solely to be the latest Disposable Woman in a video game. Gameplay will still unfold like the world’s scariest version of Hide and Seek, with Langermann forced to seek shelter anytime he’s under threat, and there will be a handful of resources (like batteries and Langermann’s glasses) to keep tabs on. And those hoping to get a taste of the upcoming sequel don’t even have to wait until 2017, now that the Outlast 2 demo from this year’s convention circuit is available on PC and consoles.
Just make sure you download the Outlast 2 demo soon, if you’re interested, because the studio says it will be pulled from PSN, Steam and Xbox Live on Nov. 1.
