Overwatch' Chinese New Year Skins: Journey To The West Themes For Winston, Zenyatta And More
Last night, Blizzard announced the newest event for Overwatch, The Year Of The Rooster. Two tweets from the American and Korean OW Twitter accounts featured new skins for Mei and D.Va. I’d assumed this was the first we actually saw of these awesome looking clothes for the ice queen and the Starcraft 2 pro, but I was wrong.
Reddit detective Jokar101 posted on Thursday morning that these skins were actually teased during last month’s Winter Wonderland event. Ornament sprays for Mei and D.Va feature the exact costume they have on to celebrate The Year Of The Rooster. It’s pretty cool that the team over at Blizzard hid a sweet easter egg for fans to find.
If we take a look at all of the ornament sprays released in the Winter Wonderland event, we might be able to find teasers for even more skins. On the other hand, this could just be coincidence, so take all of this with a huge grain of salt. Symmetra looks like she is wearing a flowing gown and Genji seems to be wearing a kimono.
Symmetra is in desperate need for another Legendary skin, the Hindu goddess and Architect skins don’t cut it anymore, now that she isn’t trash tier. I also wouldn’t mind seeing Genji in something a little less… skintight.
Making the rest of the ornament sprays real skins for the Year Of The Rooster doesn’t seem likely, but is entirely possible. I’d buy as many loot boxes as my little bank account could handle if Widowmaker had a mime skin. She could pull herself upwards with an imaginary rope, though that would be a bit broken. Pharrah is in full ancient Egyptian royalty garb and would also make an awesome skin. My guess is it’s going to be called CleoPharrah.
There’s still one more ornament spray of a hero that’s not a pre-existing skin, Oktoberfest Reinhardt. It would be hard to tie a German beer-drinking holiday with the Lunar New Year, but if any game could pull it off, it’s Overwatch.
