Do you feel a chill in the air? It could be a spooky specter tapping you on the back, desperate to drag you into the grave to attone for all the awful sins you’ve committed during your miserable existence, or it could be Overwatch’s Halloween Terror event. After days of unyielding speculation, Blizzard has finally opened the gates of Junkenstein’s hell with the release of a teaser for the new event. Halloween Terror will take place from Oct. 10 to Nov. 2, though it’s unclear how many skins, sprays or modes we are going to get. Half the fun of an Overwatch event is to wait by your computer for that patch update to start. The other half is to play the new content (which I would like yesterday, Blizzard).

In the agonizingly short video, we see a 360 degree capture of McCree and Reaper dressed in their sharpest monster hunting garb. It looks like Junkenstein’s Terror, my favorite Horde mode of last year, will make its triumphant return. The panorama was taken on the same map and you can see Junkrat in his mad scientist costume on the logo.

Meanwhile, the cowboy seems to be cosplaying as Van Helsing, the monster hunter known best by millennials for the terrible movie, starring Hugh Jackman. It’s the same skin concept they went for last year, so I’m hoping there’s a bit more to his garb besides a flowing coat and a grizzled grimace.

Reyes is also wearing pretty normal clothes, but I doubt he’s going to let himself get up-staged. Seeing Reaper without a cowl in his helmet is actually quite odd – something looks off about the edge lord's appearance. The mask looks like plastic taped to his skull; less like a former member of Overwatch’s most gruesome underground division and more like a 20-year-old who’s trying cosplay for the first time. I hoped Blizzard would have taken the smart route and turn the costumes from the “Doomfist Masquerade” comic into skins, but that doesn’t seem to be the plan. I still have hopes for Doomfist in a tuxedo, but that light is fading fast.

Reaper and McCree both got Halloween skins last year and it’s weird to see Overwatch double-dipping when there are still so many other heroes. Zarya and Winston would both love to go to the Halloween ball, but can’t because Blizzard won’t dress them up in something fancy. Overwatch has favorite heroes that get skins more than others, like Tracer and Reaper, and that’s a crying shame. Everyone deserves a Halloween treat, regardless of how spooky they are in their regular clothes.

Overwatch doesn't care if you've ever tried an FPS before, it holds your hands and makes you feel okay while you shoot rocket launchers, icicles and sound waves.
