The Australian outback has a badass leader who could potentially be Overwatch ’s next hero. The Queen of Junkertown is the newest side character added to the game, joining Hammond and that annoying director in the limo on the Hollywood map. The map, featuring an irradiated Mad Max inspired wasteland, is finally up on the PTR. That means it’s time to learn a bit more about what could potentially be the third Australian added to the cast.

Rachel Day, a Blizzard developer, playing the new map at Gamescom, said the queen is “just a voice” and doesn't want to reveal anything too “spoilery to fans.” We all thought Doomfist was just a throwaway joke, but he turned out to be the next hero. Could the Queen be that next Easter egg turned playable hero?

Who Is The Queen Of Junkertown?

In the cinematic trailer introducing Junkertown to the masses, we hear the Queen’s VO over the desolated hellscape. “We won the war. And now we reap the spoils,” she says. “We built a new world from the ashes. So step into the Scrapyard. No rules. No mercy. Only the strong survive. This is your queen. Welcome to the apocalypse. Welcome to Junkertown." That pretty much sums up the Junker mentality: you have to be strong to survive, and if you aren’t, the omnics will kill you.

Junkers are what’s left of Australians in the Overwatch universe. After the whole continent was given to the robot survivors after the Omnic war, a group of freedom fighters called the Australian Liberation Front set off a chain reaction that ended in nuclear armageddon. Since then, the proud hopefuls who refused to leave their homeland created a new society straight out of a dystopian nightmare. Junkertown has giant walls that make it impossible to get in or out, tall tenement houses and a robot fighting ring. The Queen has created a world where she dominates with an iron fist, perfect for a game that already has someone with a literal Doomfist.

On one of the walls, we can see a poster of the Queen. She looks like Furiosa from Mad Max Fury Road with a boob job. She’s holding what looks like a giant axe that would be too heavy for someone of that size to lift, unless they had robot upgrades. It would be awesome if she was the next tank or bruiser, able to cleave enemies in half with the brute force of her whacking stick.

The Queen sits on a throne on the edge of the robot fighting ring, watching robots with saw blades and jack hammers piloted by humans fight for her amusement. Next to her throne lies two weapons, a spear and a scrappy edged blade, perfect for mutilating omnics. Around the pit, you can find hundreds of omnic body parts, some still twitching. Those who support her reap the benefits, with box seats with perfect views for the robot fighting pastime.

There’s a list of the Queen’s rules on the walls of Junkertown:

1. No omnics
2. Pay your share
3. Finder's keepers
4. Settle your own scores
5. Troublemakers will be exiled

Junkrat and Roadhog, as seen in “The Plan” cinematic, were kicked out for causing mayhem, which the Queen refuses to tolerate.

Do you think the Queen of Junkertown is going to be the next Overwatch hero, or is this just an easter egg? Tell us in the comments.
