Overwatch ’s Competitive Play third season is starting, so get your Roadhog shotguns and Reinhardt shields ready. There’s a ton of stuff changing when season three starts on Dec. 1, so let’s take a look at what Jeff Kaplan and his team of merry developers have in store for us for the next three months.

When Will Season 3 End?

We know the season starts on Dec. 1, but there’s no concrete evidence as to when it will end. Judging by the last season, we can guess that season three will end in Feb. 2017, with a week of downtime before season four starts a week after.

What’s Happening To Skill Ratings?

On the PTR, Skill Ratings got another major overhaul. Kaplan found more players than intended were ending up in the Gold and Platinum tiers, even when they deserved to be Silver and Bronze. For next season, Kaplan warns players will end up in a much lower position after their placement matches than they did in the previous season.

So, in season two, if you won five of your 10 placement matches, you ended up in Gold. If you go 5-5 in your placement in season three, chances are you are going to end up in Silver ELO. You are still the same level of player, but now Overwatch is making you work a bit harder. To compensate, you will earn more points by winning, so climbing should be a lot easier.

Skill Rating Tiers

These are the tiers from season two, but it doesn't look like they are going to change this time around.

Bronze/ 1-1499

Silver/ 1500-1999

Gold/ 2000-2499

Platinum/ 2500-2999

Diamond/ 3000-3499

Master/ 3500-3999

Grandmaster/ 4000-5000

Other Changes

Alongside Skill Ratings, a brand new Symmetra is coming to Overwatch for season three. You can read the full list of changes on the PTR that will be coming live here. Turns out, Symmetra still has a few kinks that need to be ironed out.
