Details on a boxed copy of Paragon have been released by Epic Games, just a few weeks after the new MOBA’s Early Access program opened up to the community, but we’re not sure how many early adopters are going to be interested in a $60 offering for a new free-to-play game.
Just in case the game managed to slide by under your radar, Paragon is a new third-person MOBA from Epic Games, the studio previously best known for its work on the Unreal franchise and its eponymous game engine. The game plays similarly to Smite, relying heavily on usage of “skillshot” abilities that require precise aim from the player. But rather than rely on the pantheons of gods that have existed throughout human history, Paragon introduces an entire roster of new characters for the community to enjoy.
This week, Epic confirmed plans to release Paragon Essentials Edition via a variety of retailers, including Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop and more. The newly-announced boxed copy of the game will retail for $60, which might sound crazy at first considering Paragon will be free-to-play at launch. But Paragon Essentials Edition will include a variety of in-game goodies for anyone willing to purchase the bundle.
Here’s everything you’ll get with the retail edition of Paragon, via Epic:
- 6,000 Paragon Coins (worth $60).
- In-game currency to spend on additional Master Challenges, skins, boosts, and other items that I’ll see as you stand over my corpse.
- Five Hero Master Challenges.
- Each Master Challenge immediately grants a Challenger skin and permanent XP boost, plus unlocks unique rewards as you play, including a taunt (that you’ll use on me) and the Master skin.
- Includes Master Challenges for Twinblast, Sevarog, Iggy & Scorch, and two soon-to-be-announced Heroes.
- Five Skins, including the launch-exclusive Wasteland Twinblast skin.
- For now, you can only get the Wasteland Twinblast skin in the Essentials Edition.
- Five Rep Boosts (each lasts for three wins).
- Rep boosts speed up how quickly you earn Rep, which you can spend on card packs, Master Challenges, and more.
