There is a new minor update for Path of Exile that introduces specific changes to the Royale mode, including added experience when killing other players, more monster drops, among many others.
In the reveal of the Expedition expansion, lead developer Chris Wilson said that they are bringing back the Royale mode. It will be available every weekend until the end of Expedition league.
For those who do not know, the Royale mode is the game’s take on battle royale where players would start at Level 1 and battle with others in some specific maps. It was a special event a few years back.
Royale-Specific Changes
Patch 3.15.0e introduces these changes in Royale mode. For instance, players who disconnect while in a Royale match will leave a corpse that other players can loot.
This new update also aims to help players level up much quicker. That is because killing another player will grant 500 experience points plus 20% of the total player’s experience. This was previously set to only 200 points plus 20%.
Now, the Royale mode encourages players to kill only those who are on the same level as them. Patch 3.15.0e reinforces this by applying a certain penalty, where killing those who are two levels lower would reduce experience gain by around 60%.
Because it could take time for combatants to gain the skills and support gems necessary to beat others, monsters will drop more gems.
Here are the highlights of the Royale-specific changes that can be expected starting this weekend:
- Equipment drops from monsters and chests are less likely to be magic (and therefore more likely to be either normal or rare).
- Items spawned on the ground are more likely to be Skill and Support Gems.
- Ball Lightning now deals approximately 35% more damage to players. Its damage against monsters has not been changed.
- The flat damage component of Explosive Arrow's explosions has been reduced by 20% at all levels. Additionally, Explosive Arrow now deals approximately 24% less damage to players.
- The Accelerated Volley notable passive now also causes projectiles to pierce an additional time.
- The Spellmaster notable passive now grants 10% increased cast speed. It no longer grants 10% increased spell damage.
- Fixed a bug where unusable Quicksilver Flasks could occasionally drop. There are meant to be no Quicksilver Flasks in Royale.
- Fixed a bug where Divine Ire was unable to hit players while channeling.
