Endemol has announced that it has partnered with both Curve Digital and FuturLab to develop a video game based on the highly acclaimed TV series, Peaky Blinders.
Peaky Blinders is set in Birmingham, England, and follows the exploits of a gangster family. The series stars, among other, Cillian Murphy, Hele McCrory, Sam Neil, Adrien Brody, and Tom Hardy. The fifth season is expected to premiere this year, with writer and creator Steven Knight saying that he is already writing season six with a high possibility of a season seven.
The game itself will be a narrative action game inspired by the series, and is expected to be launched sometime in 2020 for both the PC and consoles. The game will be story-driven and allow players to control their favorite characters. Reports say that this could be similar to the adaption of Telltale Games to Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead video games.
Curve Digital CEO Dominic Wheatley said that Curve is excited to work with Endemol and transform the TV show to an interactive experience. He says that is Peaky Blinders is “at the top of my list of favorite TV shows.”
For Endemol Director of Games and Gambling Anil Mistry, the game will utilize technology that gives fans the experience that they expect. He added that considering how unique the world of Peaky Blinders is, the show is able to lend itself "incredibly well to this style of gaming, and players can look forward to an authentic, original and immersive game experience."
FuturLab is known for games like the racer Tiny Trax, released in 2017, and the arcade style shoot-em-up Velocity, launched in 2012. Curve Digital, meanwhile, has released a number of games that include The Flame in the Flood and Human Fall Flat.
While it is not clear how Knight will be involved in the development of the game, various reports have said that Knight has confirmed he is excited by all of the developments.
