After a successful showing at E3, PES 2018 announced the details for its online beta, set to begin on July 20.
The beta, which will end on July 31, features only two teams for now, France and Brazil. The games will be played at only one stadium, New Sonne Arena, but will allow players to change the weather (fine or rain) and the time of day of the game (day or night). While the beta seems light in features, players will also have options regarding the type of games they will be able to play.
Players will be able to play in one vs. one and three vs. three game modes. The three vs. three game mode is new to PES 2018. As a new mode, it will be fascinating to see how fans react and what critiques will come from it. The beta for PES 2018 will be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. For Xbox One users, Xbox Live Gold will be required for the beta. Meanwhile, PS4 users will not need to subscribe to PlayStation Plus for beta access.
The purpose of the beta is to test network conditions and to see what works and what doesn’t work. With a limited amount of licenses and teams, the intangibles become an important part of the PES 2018, and that includes online play. EA Sports’ FIFA franchise seems to have figured out online play and for Konami, online play will play an important part for PES 2018 to stay competitive against FIFA.
Finally, PES Global Product & Brand Manager Adam Bhatti took to Twitter to announce that this online beta does not replace a traditional demo and that a demo would be released closer to the September release date.
