The role-playing game Pillars of Eternity will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch soon, as an August 8 release date has been comfirmed. Titled Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition, the Switch release includes all downloadable content and expansions that were originally released for the PC.
Originally released on March 26, 2015, Pillars of Eternity takes place in the fantasy world of Eora within the nation of Dyrwood. You play as a foreigner who arrives at Dyrwood after your caravan is hit by a mysterious storm that kills everyone but you. After taking refuge in a cave, you witness cultists performing rituals on a machine that strips souls from their bodies. It is here where your journey will begin to battle the Hollowborn plague (a condition wherein children are born without souls) that ravages that entire nation. You need to create a team and utilize your newfound powers to save the nation of Dyrwood.
Pillars of Eternity revolves around tactics based gameplay wherein you can play as one of six races (Human, Aumaua, Dwarf, Elf, Godlike, and Orlan) and forge your own path, whether its through the class you choose (Barbarian, Chanter, Cipher, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Priest, Ranger, Rogue or Wizard), or through the decisions you make in-game which will dictate your reputation with each of the various factions in the world. These choices you make will have far reaching consequences that you will feel until your endgame.
Pillars of Eternity was released to critical acclaim, with praise towards its immersive world and strong narrative. To be honest, this was to be expected coming from Obsidian Entertainment’s already strong RPG outings in Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Also, the highly anticipated first-person RPG from the same studio The Outer Worlds is set to release on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on October 25.
Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition will come out for the Nintendo eShop on August 8, 2019. No news has been announced yet if it will be released for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
