It’s finally time for the next PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds monthly update and the oft-promised server performance fixes said to be the focus of the June patch. But PUBG ’s problematic servers aren’t the only issue addressed in the next update. Bluehole says fans should expect big changes to the loot system that ensures PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds players always have something resembling a weapon at their disposal. Even if it’s a frying pan.
In a new post on the game’s Steam page, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds creator Brendan “Playerunknown” Greene outlined the team’s reasons for modifying the existing spawn rates and their long term goals for the loot system.
“Due to a bug, we’ve been experiencing an issue where some items either spawned more or less than intended,” Green wrote. “This was discovered in the process of modifying the spawn table internal structure for developing custom games, and after following and testing the issue, we discovered that a similar issue was present throughout all spawn tables.
“Not all items had issues, but we decided it was necessary to adjust some of the items that were spawned too much or too little for their tiers.”
Greene confirmed additional changes would be coming in the future as new weapons are added to the table and Bluehole collects more data on item spawns. One such weapon, the Groza, will be added to the Care Package loot table in this week’s PUBG patch. And it’s safe to assume the studio will continue to work on its loot algorithm long after PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is out of Early Access and available for Xbox One, given Greene’s stated desire to eventually build the game into a major esport.
Here’s the changelog for PUBG ’s loot system:
Care Package
New weapon, the Groza, was added. This weapon may only be acquired in Care Packages.
VSS will no longer be found in Care Packages. It will remain to be spawned in the map.
At a low probability, you will be able to acquire AR Silencers and SR Silencers in Care Packages.
At a low probability, you will be able to acquire 4x Scopes in Care Packages.
World Spawn
New weapon, a 9mm pistol with full auto mode, the P18C, was added.
Spawn rate of SCAR-L was decreased to better fit the weapon’s tier.
Spawn rate of UMP was slightly decreased.
Spawn rate of UZI was slightly increased.
Level 1 Helmet was being spawned at a much higher rate than the Level 1 Vest, and the spawn rate was adjusted so that both items will be spawned at a similar rate.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is currently available in Steam Early Access. The game heads to Xbox One sometime in 2018.
