Sony has released the second biggest system update for Playstation 5. Some of its best features include support for M.2 SSD storage expansion and UX enhancements. Let’s dive into these features, shall we?
M.2 SSD Storage Expansion
The Playstation 5 comes with a lot of storage space by default, but modern games have become so big that you may need more. Thankfully, Sony has finally given the green light for you to install an additional M.2 SSD to expand storage.
If you are going to do it, the SSD must meet the specifications and size requirements outlined on Sony’s page. Also, the additional storage must have effective cooling, so you may want one with a good heatsink.
UX Enhancements
Sony has improved the user experience with the latest update by providing new useful features. For instance, you now have the power to customize the console’s Control Center to your liking. You can rearrange, add, or hide controls at the bottom of the screen as you see fit.
Further, you will also notice the enhanced Game Base. Now, you can view and write messages to other people directly from the Game Base located inside the Control Center. You can now easily see whether your friends are online, busy, or offline.
Choose Your Resolution
If you are a Playstation Now subscriber, a new option allows you to choose which resolution you want for game streaming. You can set the resolution to HD (720p) or Full HD (1080p). There is also a streaming connection test to tell you if there are problems with your internet connection. It will present some solutions to help you troubleshoot any existing issues.
3D Audio Support for Built-in TV Speakers
The company has found that 3D Audio is quite popular for those playing the PS5 using a compatible pair of headphones. Because of this, Sony is now giving you the option to enable 3D Audio using your TV’s built-in speakers.
You can turn it on via the console’s Sound menu. This will transform the standard two-channel TV speaker audio into a more immersive, three-dimensional sound. For maximum benefit, you can use the DualSense controller’s built-in microphone to optimize your setup.
