The PlayStation Now library will finally include a selection of PS4 games, Sony confirmed on Monday, but it’s going to be a few more weeks (maybe months) before the average PS Now subscriber can access the expanded catalog. But a short wait is better than being forced to wonder if it’ll ever happen, right?
The latest word on PlayStation Now comes courtesy of the PlayStation Blog, Sony’s preferred venue for providing public updates on its PlayStation-related services. Senior Marketing Manager Brian Dunn says fans shouldn’t expect PS4 games to flood the service overnight. It took more than a year for PlayStation Now to reach its current size, with a library of more than 480 games, and the company will take a similarly measured approach to incorporating the PS4 catalog. Sony isn’t ready to talk numbers, and today’s announcement didn’t mention any specific PS4 games we can expect to see in the future, but it’s safe to assume Sony won’t put the entire first-party PS4 catalog onto PlayStation Now in one sitting.
Dunn says a private test will begin “in the next few weeks,” giving select members of the PS Now community a chance to test drive a version of the app that includes access to unidentified PS4 games. Additional information on the test will be distributed to participants, chosen from the current pool of PS Now subscribers, and Dunn says PlayStation Now’s popular cloud-saves will be supported by the PS4 games added to the service.
PlayStation Now is currently available on PlayStation 4 and PC.
