PlayStation 4 had no lack of exclusives throughout its lifetime. While the first half did have only a few games, the second half featured numerous exclusives. It seems things are going to be a little different for PlayStation 5.
Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst revealed in a recent interview that they have over 25 games in development. It doesn’t mean that we will get these games within a year or two since they will take time to create and polish. But it’s good to know that your PS5 won’t be eating dust anytime soon. He also revealed that almost half of these games will be new IPs. So thankfully, this generation will also have some unique titles instead of just sequels.
These upcoming games will range in size and scope. Some will be big-budget AAA titles while others will be smaller in scale. They will come in different genres as well, and not all titles are being made by first-party developers. Returnal and Sackboy: A Big Adventure are examples of third-party games, both of which received a positive reception from fans and critics.
Confirmed Games
Obviously, Hulst didn’t reveal what these 25 games are. We will know more about them in time though we do know about some. One of these new titles is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to be released on June 11. Other games like Horizon Forbidden West, God of War Ragnarok, and Gran Turismo 7 are still in development.
Educated Guesses
We can also make some educated guesses. Naughty Dog is currently developing the ambitious multiplayer mode, Factions for The Last of Us Part 2 . Previous rumors have suggested that The Last of Us Remake is also in development. We can expect Insomniac Games to make a full-fledged Spider-Man game as well.
An article confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West is still planned for a late 2021 release. Hopefully, it won’t be delayed until next year.
PC Port?
I just hope that many of these titles will eventually be released on PC, even if a few years later. Sony has already released Horizon Zero Dawn on PC while Days Gone will launch on PC next week. Previous rumors also suggested that several PS4 exclusive games including Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Bloodborne will launch on PC. However, there has not been an official announcement for these titles so take it with a grain of salt.
