A sprawling new Minecraft mod, inspired by Nintendo’s beloved Pokémon franchise, is now available for download. And Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst might be one of the most ambitious fan projects we’ve ever seen. There’s also a good chance the project is going to be scrubbed from its website, and any Minecraft mod repositories hosting the files, by the end of the week.

Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst is designed for use with Minecraft 1.8.8. Like many fan-made Pokémon games, Cobalt and Amethyst includes a brand new set of creatures, produced entirely by Phoenix SC. The team says we can expect to see/catch 136 new Pokémon in Cobalt and Amethyst , along with wandering Trainers, Pokémon centers/gyms and all the other usual sites you’d expect from a Pokémon release. And Phoenix says the mod’s campaign clocks in at (a rather beefy) 60-80 hours. Thankfully, the team wrote a walkthrough, from the prologue all the way through the Elite Four, for those interested in shaving a few more hours off that estimate.

As with most Pokémon- inspired projects, we strongly suggest downloading Pokémon Cobalt and Amethyst today if you’re even remotely interested in the project. Nintendo usually doesn’t waste much time getting this sort of content scrubbed from the web, as best as the company can manage, and hunting down a mirrored version of fan games is rarely easy.
