'Pokémon Gen 10' Map Focuses on Ocean Setting, Says Leak, But Will This Divide Fans?

The island life may not be for all Pokémon fans.

A new "Pokémon" map leak for Generation 10 is suggesting there's a new adventure awaiting players. This is because for the first time in the "Pokémon" franchise, Gen 10 will reportedly focus on an ocean setting.

While there have been various games that had players venturing out into the sea, ocean, or other bodies of water, these have only been part of the game and not entirely its focus.

'Pokémon' Gen 10 Map Leak: New Ocean Setting

A new report from Centro Leaks has revealed the next possible setting of the next "Pokémon" mainline game, claiming that it will no longer follow its usual focus of letting players explore land areas.

The next game, which has been codenamed "Gaia," will reportedly venture out into the oceans and seas, moving away from its usual setting.

Centro Leaks said that "Pokémon" Gen 10's map will be based on the real-world Cyclades, which is a group of islands that are part of Greece along the Aegean Sea.

Cyclades will serve as a loose inspiration for what will appear on this upcoming title, whose map will reportedly be surrounded by water. It is known that the "Pokémon" franchise has been basing its maps on real-world locations over the years, with the recent "Pokémon Scarlet and Violet" getting inspiration from the Iberian Peninsula.

Will New 'Pokémon' Gen 10 Map Divide Fans?

It is important to note that a possible introduction of an archipelagic setting for the next "Pokémon" game means players would have to venture out into the open waters for most of their adventure. This may also mean that one of the main methods of transportation here would require either using the "Surf" ability and cruising on top of one's Pokémon or using "Fly" for instant transportation.

According to ComicBook Gaming, this latest leak may be a downside for those who do not prefer traveling on water. This leak, should it be the one used by Game Freak and Nintendo for "Gaia," would be a massive factor for fans on whether or not they'll play the game.

Should this leak be the real deal, players may reportedly opt for "Pokémon Legends: Z-A," which focuses on a more traditional experience rather than the next mainline release of Gen 10 that is expected for next year.
