It’s now the second day of E3 and at Nintendo’s Treehouse event the Japanese company announced some awesome new details for Pokemon Go. Shigeru Miyamoto, the original creator of Mario and Zelda, announced that Pokemon Go will be officially launching soon and the wearable peripheral, Pokemon Go Plus, will be purchasable in July for $34.99.
We also got to see how the Pokemon Go Plus watch will work. It will link up to your smartphone via Bluetooth and will vibrate when you encounter a Pokemon in the real world. The light in the center will start to shine green, and you can press the button in the middle to throw a pokeball. If you catch the Pokemon, the light turns multiple different colors and if you fail the light turns red. It’s not necessary to play the regular version of the game, but it is a nice add-on for Pokemon freaks.
Unlike regular Pokemon games, you can’t evolve Pokemon by leveling them up. In order to evolve your Pokemon, you need to collect Pokemon candy by catching the same versions of those Pokemon. On stage, one of the developers said: “collecting 25 squirtles will get you enough candy to evolve to Wartortle.”
At launch, there will be no trading or large scale events. The Mewtwo battle in the trailer will not be in the main game, though you can work with other players to take down gyms wherever you are. There will also only be Kanto Pokemon at launch, with other regions being added to the game eventually.
If you're not excited about Pokemon Go, the child in you is dead.
