Pokémon Go is a global phenomenon, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its flaws. A new bug has been discovered in Niantic’s AR mobile game and it takes away a core feature of the game, the catching aspect of Pokémon Go .

We’ve gone in-depth on how to track certain Pokémon that appear on your radar, but many users are reporting the three footprints shown underneath nearby Pokémon sometimes don’t decrease the closer you get to them, like they are supposed to.

We at iDigitalTimes have noticed this over the weekend and it could stem from the recent updates rolled out for both Android and iOS. Until Niantic releases a fix, Pokémon Go users are in danger of missing out on some rare Pokémon.

However, you CAN still track Pokémon, even with the glitch.

I caught a Lickitung over the weekend with the glitch intact, and this is how I did it. Of course, this is nowhere near a perfect strategy but if you are patient and don’t mind some walking, you should be able to find your desired Pokémon.

First off, when the desired Pokémon appears on your radar you’ll need to choose a direction to walk, just like before the glitch.

We recommend you don’t isolate the desired Pokémon on your radar. Since the footprints won’t decrease, you’ll need to determine if you’re getting closer by paying attention to where your desired Pokémon appears in the three rows of Pokémon. As you walk, the position of your Pokémon will change and the closer to the top row your desired Pokémon is, the closer they should appear.

Also, if your desired Pokémon drops off your radar, you know you’re walking in the wrong direction. Turn 180 degrees and walk until they appear again.

Once the desired Pokémon appears in the first row of your radar then you know you’re close. Keep an eye on your map and if the GPS on your phone freezes then restart the app. Eventually your Pokémon will appear.

That’s how I caught Lickitung with the Pokémon Go footprints glitch still in the game.

There are also reports that if you restart the app once you are sure you’ve moved closer, the Pokémon will appear with fewer footprints. We have not found this trick to work but it may for you, so go ahead and try it out.

In the meantime, let us know how you are coping with the Pokémon Go tracking glitch and if you have any advice for other trainers. Sound off in the comments section below.
