Trading in Pokémon Sun and Moon hasn’t changed much from Pokémon X and Y and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire but with so many new features, it would be a shame if the trading feature didn’t change.

While Wonder Trade is the same from Gen 6, the Global Trade System (GTS) has seen some small tweaks.

First, let’s explain what the GTS actually is. The GTS is a place where trainers can trade with anyone in the world. And yes, you can do that already, but the GTS allows for trainers to deposit Pokémon and request a Pokémon.

You can also look in the GTS database and see what other trainers around the world are looking for and maybe you can exchange Pokémon.

SEEKING POKEMON

All of the filter options in the Sun and Moon GTS remain the same. You can search for Pokémon in your region or from another region. You can also filter out requests to Pokémon that you have registered in your Pokedex.

The biggest change comes with a new filter option. You can include or not include trainers asking for Mythical or Legendary Pokémon.

This was the biggest problem in the Gen 6 GTS and trainers can now look for fair trades.

DEPOSITING POKEMON

If you want to deposit a Pokémon in the GTS, you can choose what Pokémon you are looking for, the gender and level.

But this is where another change in Sun and Moon ’s GTS is found. In the past, you can write a custom message for trainers to see. This was the place where trainers can ask for Hidden Abilities or no Nicknames or anything like that.

In Sun and Moon, you can’t input any custom messages but there are pre-written messages that you send.

They include:

“Please trade Pokémon with me. Thanks in advance.”

“I want to trade for a Pokémon that will help me with my adventure.”

“I want to trade for a Pokémon that is strong in battles.”

“I want to trade for a treasured Pokémon that has been raised from an Egg.”

“I want to fill my PokeDex.”

“I want to fill my PokeDex with other languages.”

“I want to trade for one of your precious Pokémon you’ve given a nickname to.”

“This is a Pokémon I raised very carefully. Please trade with me if you’d like.”

“This is a Pokémon that just hatched. Please raise it carefully.”

“This is a Pokémon that I raised so that it will do great in battles.”

“This is a Pokémon with great potential. Please raise it if you’d like.”
