Since the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon on Nov. 18, there have been some reports of a save glitch that forces players to delete their save file and start over.

The Sun and Moon save glitch seems to occur when a trainer saves in a PokeCenter (specifically in front of the PC) and in front of the PC at the Battle Tree. There doesn’t seem to be any reason for this sort of glitch, but some trainers have reported it on social media and posted videos of what happens.

In particular, it seems when a player starts Pokémon Sun or Moon , the game doesn’t fully load and your trainer character is not shown. All button inputs don’t work and trainers have no choice but to close the game and delete their save file.

However, before trainers begin to freak out, it seems these save glitch reports are not as legit as it seems. A lot in the community believe that these reports come from players who pirated or hacked into their Sun and Moon games, causing the glitch to happen.

Serebii took to Twitter to say that these reports have left out “illicit” circumstances to their claims.

There has been no word from the Pokémon Company about this supposed glitch, but we will update if anything changes.

The Sun and Moon save glitch reminds trainers who played Pokémon X and Y of the Lumiose City glitch that forced deletion of save files. That glitch was a legitimate bug from Game Freak, who put out a patch soon after the reports began to come out.
