Power Season 3 doesn't have an official start date yet, but the latest hint comes from 50 Cent’s Instagram. “ Back to New York to work on the TV show people seem to like, POWER returns in June,” the Rapper posted. A Summer air date wouldn't be unexpected. The last two seasons of Power both premiered in early June as well.
Season 3 of Power is currently in production. On Jan. 27, Executive Producer Courtney Kemp Agboh tweeted she was writing the season 3 finale. Posts from the cast across social media document their experiences filming season 3 in New York City. Omari Hardwick, who plays James ‘Ghost’ St. Patrick, tweeted the call sheet on the first day of production Sept. 14. “Day 1 down. Bout 160 to go.....” the actor posted to Twitter and Instagram.
50 Cent also snapped a picture of his co-star, Joseph Sikora, who plays Tommy, with the Instagram caption, “Power, no Golden Globe nominations ok. Why is everyone waiting for it then? Or maybe nobody's waiting.” In another post, 50 Cent teases that somebody else will wind up behind bars in season 3. “ In the writing room POWER SEASON 3 jail house flick, little 50 know it's about to get crazy,” the caption reads. 50 Cent’s son has his hands over his eyes in disbelief over what happened in the writing room that day.
Agboh teased about what could happen next season in an August Madame Noire interview. “I just pitched the Season 3 arc to the heads of PR and Marketing and their teams. Everyone was on the edge of their seats like “Oh, my God! No Way! You’re not going to f**king do that! Noooo!” Unfortunately, she was reluctant to give any more details.
Naturi Naughton, who plays Tasha, took over Entertainment Weekly’s Instagram last week, but kept her lips sealed about any season 3 spoilers. The cast of Power was scheduled to make an appearance at Paley Fest in LA to reveal a sneak peek of season 3, but Ticketmaster states the event has been cancelled for “unforeseen schedule changes.”
In the series, Ghost lives a dual life. By day he runs a successful club, by night he runs the streets. 50 Cent plays Kanan, a drug dealer who was locked up for 10 years. Once he gets out, he’s after Ghost’s fortune even though Ghost desperately wants to get out of the drug business. At the end of last season, Ghost left Kanan to die in a fire but it turns out Kanan was able to escape. Now in season 3, Kanan is going to be out for Ghost’s head. An official teaser on Starz website doesn’t show any new footage. Instead, stills of the casts’ faces shift across the screen with the words, “Can you ever get out?”
Power has both high ratings and glowing reviews. Starz renewed a 10-episode Season 3 just 24 hours after the season 2 premiere, which boasted 1.4 million viewers. Over 4 million tuned in for the season 2 finale. Expect an early June premiere, most likely in the first week. Season 1 premiered June 7, 2014, and season 2, June 6, 2015.
Update 4/5/16: 50 Cent's Instagram stated the wrong date. Starz has confirmed Power Season 3 premieres in July. Click here for the updated story.
