Prison Break is halfway done filming, yet we still have no official release date to mark on our calendars. Fox has approved just 9 episodes. Hopefully that’ll be enough to round out the series’ compulsive four season run. The Prison Break Writers Twitter account confirms we’ll get a release date in the coming week. Fingers crossed that the Prison Break reboot will air in September like speculation suggests.

**UPDATE: Prison Break Season 5 premieres on Fox early 2017. Watch the trailer here. **

Most of the cast is under the impression the series premieres in September 2016, including co-star Dominic Purcell. New cast member, Faran Tahir ( Iron Man ), also corroborated that release window in his Facebook post. Robert Knepper even captioned an Instagram post of his prosthetic hand with #PrisonBreak2016. However, IMDB marks the Prison Break Season 5 spilling over into 2017, and seeing September is right around the corner a release date closer to 2017 wouldn’t come as a surprise.

After a 7 year hiatus, Michael Scofield’s (Wentworth Miller) squad is back to help him break out of prison once and for all. He’s reportedly been stuck in Yemen this whole time, and thanks to his young son Mike, Lincoln (Dominic Purcell) and Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies) are on a mission to bring him home. According to The Parent Herald , Michael suffers from memory loss at the start of Season 5. Described as “a very cool and much more perceptive than one might suggest in his age,” The Silver Times reports Michael’s newfound son will help him regain his memory. Even though the Prison Break Season 4 finale made it pretty clear Michael died, the amnesia theory could explain why he didn't think of reaching out to anyone for help. Sara and Lincoln believed him to be dead for years and each moved on with their lives. Sara has found a new husband in Mark Feuerstein ( Royal Pains) .

Robert Knepper (T-Bag), Rockmond Dunbar (C-Note), and Amaury Nolasco (Sucre), Paul Adelstein (Congressman Paul Kellerman) are all reprising their roles. In addition to Tahir, Inbar Lavi ( The Last Ship ), Marina Benedict ( Torchwood ) and Kunal Sharma ( The Kids Are Alright ) have each been cast in recurring roles, according to Deadline.

“Lavi will play Sheba, a beautiful and smart operator/fixer/activist who becomes involved with Lincoln. Benedict is A&W, a crazed villainess who is unconcerned about her physical well-being but efficient in completing her deadly goals. Sharma will play Sid, who’s artsy, wired– and in prison. His offense, despite what his docket says, is solely being gay.”

Rick Yune (Marco Polo) will also join the cast as Ja, “a Korean identity thief whose disheveled appearance belies his genius.” August Prew (Kick-Ass 2) will play Whip, “who is funny, crazy, and pretty damn sharp.” Australian actor Steve Mouzakis (I, Frankenstein) is cast as Van Gogh, “a bad-ass nut-job.” Amin El Gamal (The Newsroom) will play a “heavily recurring role” as a mystery character named Cyclops.
