Prison Break will return to Fox during the 2017 mid-season. The miniseries, featuring 9 episodes, will take Bones’ Thursday night primetime slot at 9 p.m. Prison Break Season 5 was rumored to release this September, but considering the revival is only halfway finished filming as of last week, a 2017 winter release date doesn't come as a surprise.
Fox didn’t specify a release date in their lineup announcement , but we finally have some official Prison Break artwork. The cover art features a watermark of Michael and Lincoln with writing scratched on what looks like prison cell walls.
Like the previous four seasons, Legends of Tomorrow stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. With the help of Robert Knepper (T-Bag), Rockmond Dunbar (C-Note), Amaury Nolasco (Sucre), Sarah Wayne Callies (Sara) and her son little Mike (played by newcomer Christian Michael Cooper ), Lincoln will rescue his presumed-dead friend, Michael, from a Yemeni prison. Fox’s official summary (below) doesn’t reveal any new hints about the revival's storyline.
In the drama’s new chapter, when clues surface that suggest a previously thought-to-be-dead Michael may be alive, Lincoln and Sara reunite to engineer the series’ biggest escape ever, as three of Fox River State Penitentiary’s most notorious escapees, T-Bag, C-Note and Sucre, are pulled back into the action.
Miller made an exit from Legends of Tomorrow last week on The CW when his character, Leonard Snart (aka Captain Cold) knocked out his partner Mick (Dominic Purcell), stole a kiss from White Canary, and sacrificed his life to save the rest of the team. A report from Deadline reveals he won’t be a series regular on Legends for Season 2 because he’s putting all attention toward Prison Break .
However, Snart may not have actually died on Legends after all. While he won’t be a staple character in the Legends team, executive producer Greg Berlanti also said Miller has signed a series regular contract with potential to appear on all The CW’s DC Comics shows, including Legends, The Flash, Arrow , and now the recently acquired Supergirl.
“[Wentworth Miller] won’t be part of the team of Legends on board of The Waverider next year, he will have a very active role on the show,” Berlanti said.
Even though Prison Break Season 5 hasn’t aired, there’s already talk of a sixth season. The Prison Break creative team answered fan questions on Twitter last week and hinted that if Season 5 fares well, there’s a chance Fox may order another season.
