The Punisher will star in Daredevil Season 2, but Frank Castle will not get his own show. The rumored standalone Netflix Punisher series is a no-go. Marvel Television’s Executive Vice President, Jeph Loeb, didn’t specifically say The Punisher will never get his own show, but he did strongly imply it’s not happening anytime soon.

“I think that's something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that's actually happening," Loeb told DigitalSpy. “It’s certainly our hope that any of our characters will be embraced and that people want to see more of them,” the exec added as a token of consolation.

Former Walking Dead star Jon Bernthal is set to portray The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil , which is slated for March 18 release. The first season was one of the top rated shows on Netflix with over 10 percent of subscribers tuning in to at least one episode within the first 11 days of its release. After the success of Daredevil, rumors went swirling about what else Netflix and Marvel had in store. Back in January, TV Line reported a Punisher series starring Bernthal was already in development.

While a standalone Punisher show would undoubtedly be great, it didn’t make much sense seeing Marvel already has a master plan for a final series called The Defenders. However, before The Defenders series begins, Jessica Jones , Luke Cage and Iron Fist and Daredevil must come to an end. Wow, that’s a full plate. It’s unclear how many seasons of each series will release before The Defenders premieres.

There is no news on a release date for Iron Fist, but it’s likely Marvel will hold off until 2017. Luke Cage is rumored to premiere fall 2016. Jessica Jones was renewed for a 13-episode second season in January.
