Thousands of gamers will get to play Quake Champions in the upcoming weeks, Bethesda and id Software announced on Tuesday, thanks to an impending appearance at PAX East 2017 and the upcoming Quake Champions closed beta. Id Software even released a bit of new gameplay footage as icing on the metaphorical cake.
We don’t actually know when the Quake Champions closed beta will begin; however, those interested in participating can already sign-up on the game’s website. Besthesda says it expects the game’s first semi-public testing period to begin “in the coming weeks” but stopped short of offering a specific start date. There’s also no word on what we’ll see in the Quake Champions closed beta. We don’t know how many heroes will be available, which maps will be featured or what skills we’ll get to master during the testing window. We don’t even know how long that window will remain open.
On the plus side, some gamers won’t even have to wait until the Quake Champions closed beta begins to get some hands-on time with the game. Bethesda also used Tuesday’s announcement to confirm Quake Champions will be playable in the publisher’s PAX East booth this weekend; the first convention appearance for the game since QuakeCon 2016. And more information on the game will continue to be released throughout the week, including a new champion video on Wednesday and a map preview on Thursday.
To get another look at Quake Champions, take a few seconds to watch the new closed beta trailer from Bethesda and id Software. Then head down to the comments and let us know if you’re hoping to participate in the upcoming Quake Champions closed beta or if you’re content to wait until the full game is released.
Quake Champions is in development for PC. There’s currently no timeline for the game’s debut.
