The first details on this year’s QuakeCon, the annual celebration of iD Software and its growing number of sister companies, were announced by Zenimax Media this weekend. The event will remain in Texas, as it has for the previous 25 years, but QuakeCon is moving to a much larger venue this year.
It looks like QuakeCon may have finally outgrown the Hilton Anatole, following an attendance of more than 10,000 in 2016, because the annual LAN and video game convention is moving to a much larger space across the metroplex. On Saturday, Zenimax Media announced plans to host QuakeCon 2017 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, a sprawling complex in Grapevine, TX. But this isn’t the first time the hotel will host QuakeCon. The LAN also called the Gaylord Texan home in 2004, 2005 and 2009, before relocating to Dallas for the last six years.
As always, QuakeCon will be free to anyone in the area while the convention is running. This year’s show begins Thursday, Aug. 24 and continues through Sunday, Aug. 27. The Gaylord Texan Hotel is offering a discounted room rate of $185 to QuakeCon attendees; however, the announcement doesn’t mention whether or not said rate applies to a limited number of rooms. There’s also no word on how many BYOC seats we can expect this year, or any sort of exhibitor information, but it’s probably safe to assume those details will emerge in the coming months.
