Rainbow Six Siege 's EU League 2021 just concluded its third playday and the results are here. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the matches have been held online.
The most anticipated match of the playday was between Team Empire and Team Vitality. The two teams decided to play Clubhouse with Thatcher and Kaid banned by Empire, and Maverick and Wamai banned by Vitality. The Thatcher and Maverick bans are pretty rare because it means opening walls during attacks would be very difficult, and not to mention, the map itself favors the defense. The Kaid ban on defense by Empire was to make walls a bit easier to access as Kaid’s Electroclaws can be quite difficult to spot and destroy if the players hide it well. Meanwhile, the Wamai ban by Vitality was to keep the Garage as free as possible from the enemy team.
Vitality decided to hold Gym/Bedroom for their first-round on defense, and they held it with plenty of utility. Vitality used Melusi to slow down enemies, Frost to trap enemies, Mute to deny wall openings, Valkyrie to get intel on positions, and Jager to prevent projectiles from entering easily. Empire was unable to open the walls due to Mute jammers and lost the majority of gunfights, which resulted in the first round going in favor of Vitality.
The fourth round was played on Gym/Bedroom again, but this time, Empire won after Dmitry "Scyther" Semenov clutched the round by running into the site and killing the last two enemies while the rest of the team tried to get the plant down. The first half resulted in a 3-3 scoreline, pretty impressive for Empire to leverage the defender-sided map with their bans.
Vitality on the attack had a completely different plan. They decided to rely on frags rather than opening the breach and playing strategically. One such instance occurred in round nine when Nicolas “P4” Rimbaud rushed into the basement through the blue stairs and picked up a triple kill in under five seconds. This rush allowed the rest of Vitality to get the plant down and win the round.
Vitality finished the match in round 12 by rushing in the site again through various parts of the map and by winning all gunfights. Empire did not expect such a repeat quick rush, which led to Vitality’s win. Vitality won the game with a 7-5 scoreline.
