Rainbow Six Siege Mexico Major just concluded its second playday of groups. The matches were played in a double round-robin format so that teams could play against each other twice. The DAMWON Gaming vs. Ninjas in Pyjamas match from the first playday was postponed due to technical issues. So, both teams will have to play against each other twice on the second playday.
Group C
Ninjas in Pyjamas vs. DAMWON Gaming (Game 1 and Game 2)
Both matches were played on Clubhouse. The first Clubhouse match was super close in terms of score, with the first half ending in a 3-3 scoreline. After the side switch, NIP and DWG continued this and the map went to overtime. DWG was able to win the match in the final round of overtime, resulting in an 8-7 scoreline.
Usually, teams wouldn’t play the same map if they lost it. But it seemed like NIP was confident they could win against DWG the second time. NIP started strong in game two with five rounds won on defense. This resulted in a 5-1 split. However, after the side switch, DWG played as if they had nothing to lose, and this attitude allowed them to come back. The match went all the way to overtime once again, but NIP was unable to stop DWG's momentum and threw the match. DWG won the second map with an 8-6 scoreline.
Group D
Team Liquid vs. Team Empire
This match was played on Consulate, which is an attacker-sided map. The Pulse ban from Empire and Valkyrie ban from Liquid was to prevent either team from getting intel to make plays on defense. Liquid started on attack and got three rounds, which is bad since the map favors attackers. The first half resulted in a 3-3 scoreline. After the side switch, Empire on attack seemed to lack coordination. Liquid took advantage of that and made plays whenever Empire made a mistake. Liquid opted to roam around the map that drained Empire’s time. This made it difficult for Empire to make the last-second executions into the site. Liquid won the map with a 7-5 scoreline, and so far, hasn’t lost a single match in groups.
