Red Dead Online's latest beta update adds an all-new competitive showdown mode called Spoils of War. Spoils of War adds a team-oriented twist to the title’s sprawling online gameplay, featuring elements similar to objective capture and traditional CTF.
Red Dead Redemption 2 might just be one of the best single-player games of the decade, so fans of the title are hoping Red Dead Online can step up to the plate. Although technically still in beta, Red Dead Online has had a bunch of massive developments recently, and progress has been smooth. In this latest update, Red Dead Online unveils a brand-new game mode that innovates upon what Rockstar calls “capture-style multiplayer.”
Spoils of War is designed to be an all-out match between 2-16 players, and has players defending stockpiles while simultaneously raiding their opponents’ belongings. Games are decided by who manages to win the most “spoils” at the end of the match. The new Spoils of War showdown mode can currently be played on several of the game’s popular locations, including Valentine and Fort Mercer.
To celebrate the release of the new game mode and provide players with incentive, all Showdown game modes provide a 20 percent experience bonus to all players. Additionally, Spoils of War victors receive eight extra dynamite arrows for their game-winning performance.
The new beta update also adds a few new clothing items to the game’s expansive catalog, but these are available only for a limited time. While it’s up for grabs, players can acquire the new clothes at the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalog in-game. For gentleman, Rockstar presents the Tasman Outfit, while female characters can sport the new Danube Outfit and Hitched Skirt. There are also a bunch of gender-neutral additions, such as Tied Pants, the Gardenia Hat, the Squat Stovepipe Top Hat, and the Winter Shotgun Coat.
Red Dead Online is the multiplayer arm of the critically-acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 from Rockstar Games. Currently, Red Dead Online is still in its beta, but its community has been clamoring for the developer to put more resources into the game’s award-winning single-player. Here at Player. One, we’re very much excited to see what Red Dead Online has to offer, but we’d also like to see more content for the game’s single player. What about you?
