The open playtest for the real-time tactics game Regiments is now on Steam. It's going to focus mainly on the new Operations game mode with players also being able to experience some of the new improvements.
The game is set in Germany sometime in 1989 where players need to lead their regiment through a wide-scale Cold War conflict. It offers everyone the Platoon Command system where they can orchestrate battles with unmatched precision and ease. Since players serve as Commanding Officers, there's no need to micromanage each infantryman.
Operations Game Mode
For this ongoing playtest, players can try the new Operations game mode where they need to lead their troops through days of combat spanning several maps. Expect tough decisions that need to be made and the full weight of the consequences.
Persistence is key in this game mode. That's because all losses are recorded. In addition, the platoons deployed remain in position and even the engineering obstacles stay in the area where they were placed.
That's not all since each phase of the combat moves forward with the time of day. So at some point, players are going to fight at night.
Operation Points
Additionally, players need to keep track of the main resource, Operations Points. These can be earned after completing some objectives. They can then be used for different things like replenishing losses in the depleted companies, ordering more supplies or engineering support, requesting new Task Forces, or upgrading existing ones with better equipment.
The only catch is that Operational Points are always in short supply.
