Riot Games has partnered with Amazon Web Services to transform how the esports content of Riot is created as well as distributed in the cloud. Riot is going to be the first company to use the data analytics integration of AWS for its esports broadcasts. It will change how fans experience the different esports events of Riot, which include League of Legends, Valorant, and Legends: Wild Rift.
Some of the capabilities of AWS that Riot will use include:
- First-ever AWS esports stats
- Riot and AWS are going to introduce “Stats powered by AWS” during esports broadcasts which appear before, during, and after Riot’s different global esports broadcasts to educate and inform fans on key data points that are helping drive a team toward victory.
- Fans are given the chance to vote on which esports stats is going to be developed first.
- This esports stats is expected to debut during the broadcasts of the Valorant Champions in September 2022 and the League of Legends World Championship this fall.
- AWS Global Power Rankings
- The analytics capabilities of AWS are going to be used for competitive gameplay by Riot to launch the “AWS Global Power Rankings.”
- This should create near real-time rankings of the top pro teams around the world in League of Legends Esports, Valorant Championships Tour, and Wild Rift Esports.
- It’s going to display rankings on-screen during gameplay.
- Pick’em powered by AWS
- Esports fans can participate in bracket challenges throughout the competitive season and win prizes for correctly selecting the teams that make it to each championship event.
In a statement, President of Esports at Riot Games John Needham shared that the company has always had the long-term goal of being able to bring joy to its fans worldwide through esports. He added that they are excited to work with AWS to enhance the esports experience. Needham also shared that the solutions offered by AWS can improve esports broadcasts and engage esports fans.
Meanwhile, AWS Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Global Services Matt Garman revealed that its partnership with Riot is going to elevate the whole esports landscape. He said that while it’s a win-win for the two companies, what’s more important is that it’s a win for the fans.
