Tyler1, streaming personality and Draven main, can still cause drama in the League Of Legends community even when he is not doing anything. Reddit user SoulLeZzz noticed Riot Sanjuro, the lead project designer at Riot Games, said some pretty inappropriate things in the League Discord channel. He said the streamer looks like a “damn homunculus” and will “die from a coke overdose or testicular cancer from all the steroids.”
Sanjuro really seems to have a personal problem with Tyler1, going off on quite the rant. “Do you know how much bullshit he’s caused me personally?” Sanjuro shared on reddit. “I’ve spent many hours of my day dealing with his bullshit.” It looks like Sanjuro hates the fact that Tyler1 was a serial feeder, with more than 20 accounts perma-banned by Riot Games for being incredibly toxic. “I get the comedy of his streams and his ‘brand,’ but it’s at the expense of a lot of innocent people.” He even goes as far to compare Tyler1 to a video game terrorist, holding people hostage and ruining their good times.
After the post went massively viral, hitting over 17,000 upvotes in four hours and hitting the front page of r/all, Sanjuro responded in the comments. “Dude cmon. That’s my personal take on the situation. I don’t speak for the company on live chat.. I’m my own person.” Sanjuro admitted it was a bit much to have his Riot tag on when he shared his opinions, but insists he has no grudge against Tyler1, “and honestly find (Tyler1’s) stream pretty funny regardless of what my job is.”
This story had all the elements needed to be a viral smash. Tyler1 is the only player to get personally permanently banned from League Of Legends because he was so unnecessarily awful and toxic in his games. Yet Tyler1 managed to find a massive fanbase of young teenagers and trolls who rallied behind his cause, posting “unban Tyler1” and “tyler1 reformed” in every chat imaginable. Tyler1 is the Gross Gore of 2017, a figure condemned by the company of the game that he loves to play.
That said, Tyler1 has been less of an asshole on stream recently and just a few weeks ago, he even mentioned on stream that he was in talks with Riot that could lead to him getting unbanned But now, a fed up Riot employee bad-mouthed the popular streamer on a public discord. And if it was my job to make League better and I had to deal with an influx of Tyler1 copycats that flood my game and ruin it for other people, I’d have a bit of a contempt for the man myself.
This whole debacle has been completely blown out of proportion. Riot Sanjuro messed up, but he’s not wrong about Tyler1’s poor reflection on the League Of Legends community. The streamer basically normalized toxic behavior behind an “alpha bro” persona. Tyler1 did apologize for the way he acted in League Of Legends in a Beyond The Rift stream, hosted by popular streamers Scarra and Imaqtpie earlier this week, but the damage is already done. Like Trick2G and his Udyr disrespect, Tyler1 has already created thousands of copycats looking to emulate the success and style of their meme god.
Tyler1 still hasn’t spoken out about the controversy and he won’t respond to me if I ask for a comment. He already made it perfectly clear on stream that he will never talk to me.
