Roblox is the first gaming company to introduce VR compatibility to its social platform. If you’re lucky enough to have purchased an Oculus Rift, you’ll be able to play Roblox’s games on your PC and interact with other players online.
Roblox quickly became the most downloaded game/app on Xbox One, wildly exceeding the company’s initial expectation. David Baszucki, CEO of Roblox, is excited for the company’s latest venture and believes the industry hasn’t scratch the surface of VR’s entertainment potential.
“Roblox is now the largest social VR platform in the world in terms of user count, hours of engagement, simultaneous players and volume of content,” Baszucki said in a news release. “Together with our creators, we are providing the most immersive social experiences in the history of user-generated gaming. With VR, we are changing gaming and entertainment as a whole by bringing imagination to life.”
Things to expect from Roblox’s VR support:
Interconnectivity- No matter what platform you choose to play on, you’ll be able to connect with your friends. For example, you can play a Roblox game using the Oculus Rift on your PC and be able to chat with a friend playing on his Xbox One.
First-person, third-person toggle- Roblox is aware of motion sensitivity some players might experience in its games. They’ll give players the option to switch between first-person and third-person in the games to help with motion sickness.
Games made by Roblox users specifically for VR- while most Roblox games out now will be compatible with VR headsets, users can create their own games optimize for the VR platform.
Voice interactions- Roblox plans on voice interactions in across all platforms, meaning you'll be eventually be able to talk to someone in VR.
If you’ve always wanted to make games, you should consider Roblox as a game creation platform. Roblox has more than 300,000 creators making games across mobile, PC and the Xbox One. Roblox creators profit off their creations with in-game currency and real-world cash. Some of the Roblox’s more popular game creators are making an upwards of $20,000 a month, which totals about $260,000 annual profit.
