A brand new mode is available in Rocket League this week, thanks to a free update released on Thursday, and the debut of Rumble might be the most exciting addition to Psyonix’s high-octane soccer game since Rocket League began experimenting with alternate modes last year.
If you missed the original announcement, Rocket League will take Psyonix’s already frenetic brand of soccer and make things just a little bit harder to follow. Rumble mode introduces 11 new power-ups, including the ability to freeze the ball or grab it with a magnetic leash, making it that much more difficult for the average player to score. The power-ups won’t be available in standard matches, or any of the other Mutators, but Rumble mode will be available in public and private matches once today’s patch is installed. The latest addition to Rocket League will also be added to the game’s existing online playlists.
Here’s the full list of power-ups we’ll see in Rumble mode:
The Boot
• Kicks an opponent's car
Disruptor
• Forces the opponent to drive uncontrollably
Freezer
• Freezes the ball in-place
Grappling Hook
• Pulls you toward the ball
Haymaker
• Punches the ball
Magnetizer
• Attracts the ball to your car
Plunger
• Snaps the ball to your position
Power Hitter
• Hit everything harder
Spike
• Attach the ball to your car when you bump into it
Swapper
• Change positions on the field with your opponent
Tornado
• Sweep up the ball and cars into a giant funnel cloud
